The Renault Arkana: the discount BMW X6 for Russians

What do you know, a coupe-crossover that isn’t German

The French car company Renault has now made a coupe-crossover – a German idea – but now for the Russian market. We have been waiting long enough.

Clearly, the Arkana was modeled heavily off the likeness of the BMW X6 or Mercedes GLE Coupe. Renault says it “proposes an astonishing balance between the elegance of a saloon and the sturdiness of an SUV”. That’s right: astonishing.

The French company is even going to build the Arkana in Russia, and is intended to boost Renault’s booming sales there by taking on the country’s gnarly winters in a sturdy and dependable way. Renault has stated “robustness is expressed through high ground clearance, wide wheel arches and large 19-inch wheels, for good all-terrain capabilities”. Four-wheel drive or bearskin seats are not mentioned anywhere in the blurb.

While the Arkana will eventually be sold all across Asia, the company has clearly stated that it will not be sold in Europe. Purveyors of used BMW X4s, rest easy.
