Welcome everyone, to the bold new world of the second-generation Vauxhall Mokka. No, seriously – the new Mokka really is in a different dimension compared to the chunked-up Corsa of old.
For starters, Vauxhall is launching the new Mokka in all-electric form. Yep, the Mokka-e features the same powertrain as the new Corsa-e and thus the Peugeot e-208, which means 100kW of power and a 50kWh battery pack. There are three drive modes with differing levels of brake horsepower – Eco (81bhp), Normal (107bhp) and Sport (the full 134bhp) – and the range is quoted as 201 miles on the WLTP cycle, just eight miles less than the more aerodynamic Corsa.
A fast charger can restore 80 per cent of the battery in just 30 minutes too.
And just look at it. If you can see past the lurid shade of green, you’ll notice a rather handsome crossover – if that’s not an oxymoron. The wheelbase is slightly longer than before but the overhangs are much smaller, making the whole car 12.5cm shorter. The roof line has more than a touch of Adam about it too (strange sentence, we know).
Up front is the Luton-based firm’s new Vauxhall Vizor brand face, so expect to see that on other models in the near future, and all Mokkas will get LED headlights as standard.
Inside is another new feature with a similarly corporate name – the Vauxhall Pure Panel. Essentially, it’s just two driver-focused screens that sit in the same panel, but it does look rather smart and thankfully Vauxhall has retained buttons and dials for the important functions. That instrument panel screen is 12-inches, by the way, and the central infotainment screen can be either seven or 10-inches, depending on how you like your coffee.
There’s a heap of other features as you’d expect. Adaptive cruise control, Active Lane Positioning and a 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera all make an appearance, as will a range of petrol and diesel engines once we’ve digested the Mokka-e.
